CHRIST THE REDEEMER SCHOOL STUDENTS LEARN CODING

Students from Christ the Redeemer School at Mount Zion in Chongwe District had the opportunity to learn coding. The coding lessons were conducted by Advocacy for Innovation and Technology in Schools (AITS), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that promotes and advocates for innovation and technology for primary and secondary schools in Zambia.
The coding lessons were carried out over 4 days on 23, 24, 30 and 31 May 2023. 22 students participated in the coding lessons and these were from Grade 9 to Grade 12.
Christ the Redeemer School Head Teacher Sr. Brenda Nachula said she was happy that the organisation had taught the learners a new skill. She expressed delight that the learners have been empowered with a skill that can utilize in future.
AITS Executive Director Mr. Likezo E. Nyambe said the organisation’s aim is to enable school children see the possibilities of innovation and technology.
“We introduced them to Scratch programming language for the lessons. We want to promote creativity and critical thinking in learners. Our lessons come with a strong emphasis on ethical use of technology to better society,” he said.
